Comedy of Errors

The theater in Drayton Hall is Proscenium style.  The set  was really detailed a church was in the center with buildings on both side. There was a building on the far right with a man on his balcony typing. There were two balcony’s on the set. The costumes were very fun, and colorful, they really added to the show.
I would have to guess the time era of this play is current day. The author of this play is Shakespeare. The play was written between1589 and 1595.
The plot of the story begins with mistaken identity. The mix up turns into chaos. By the end they are trying to sort it out. I enjoy the play although it was hard to hear. It was hilarious.

Phantom of the Opera

Describe-  The Phantom of the Opera  takes place in a French Opera House. The Phantom is a disfigured man that happens to be a musical genius, he  terrorizes the cast. The movie would be considered a musical, drama, romance, and thriller.
Analyze-  When analyzing this film you must understand the entire plot or you will not understand the depth of the story. The music used helps you understand on an emotional level  how deep this story actually is.
Interpret- By listening and watching you are able to interpret the depth of the story.  Everything that the phantom does throughout the movie can be interpreted into an act of love for Christine.
Evaluate- I really enjoyed this film, and I usually do not like musicals. By taking ARTE 360                , I learned to appreciate this particular musical. The film made the opera come to life.

Columbia Museum of Art - Event

The photograph I chose was the Supremes arriving at an airport. This picture is owned by the Emi Studio. The photograph was taken by John Dove in January of 1965.  The photograph is a chromogenic print, it appears black and off white.
The photo is of the Supremes getting off of an airplane. They are close together, smiling and holding their own luggage. The setting of this photo is at an airport, at the bottom of the plane stairs.  The clothes are classic, sweaters and skirts. The picture reveals that they seem like a very happy, classy singing group.
The Supremes were an American women singing group. The sang many genres of music extending from disco to soul. Women came and left the singing group. The most well known member of the group would be Diana Ross. The groups most popular songs  include Baby Love, You Can’t Hurry Love, and Stop in the Name of Love.

DANCE

The Baroque period of dance was very popular during the Baroque period.. Louis XIV during this time was a big influence on classical dance.  The dances performed during this time were usually performed at court ballets, social events, and theatres. The Baroque period  extended from about 1600 to 1750.

People dance for many reasons. A lot of people dance to express themselves, everyone has their own way of expressing themselves. People dance to get exercise. Dancing is a great exercise that works many muscles. I believe most people dance because they love and enjoy it.
The Cha Cha is a form of non western dance. The cha cha can simply be described as a fast rhythmic dance.

Film

                Art Film
The establishing shot at the beginning of the Kings Speech is outside the Palace on a dreary day then immediately a man ( King Geoge VI) attempting to give a speech . It made me automatically interested in what was the outcome was going to be.
There was a lot different camera angles shot during this movie.  They did a lot of low and high angle shots.

The story line was to see if with help  King George could overcome his stammer  to have normal conversation and to most importantly make speeches.  The scenes that drew me in is when King George would get upset and frustrated with himself. Scenes that made me uncomfortable were ones that he wanted to say so much but couldn’t speak at all.
Each role in this film was unbelievable. I waited until the end of the month just to view this particular film, because all the reviews were great. I saw firsthand how each actor portrayed each role flawlessly.  The King was both confident but yet unsure. Colin Firth portrayed the King as an actual human being with feeling.  It was without doubt one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Every morning I walk into my cold kitchen. I reach into the colder fridge and grab the coldest milk. Then I reach to the for the lowest shelf for my favorite cereal.  As I pour the coldest milk into my dry, crunchy , fabulous cereal it begins to  toss and turn together and make the coldest milk turn the boldest color.

"Nessum Dorma "

When listening to the song in the last class I thought of two things, happiness and sadness. I couldn't decide which one the song made me feel. I started of coloring with blue, then I decided it made me happy, so I started to color with all the colors I picked up.

The importance of an establishing shot is to give an idea about where, and what kind of movie it will be.  It gives the viewers an idea what the mood of the film will be. I believe the establishing shot is very important because it gives the audience a brief view of what they are about to see.

Assignment 2

There are four domains of creativity. They include fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Fluency is being creative by generating many ideas. Flexibility is seen as being creative by generating different types of ideas or looking at ideas from different perspectives. Originality is showing creativity by coming up with abnormal ideas. Elaboration means adding more to the ideas generated in order to make them better.

Feldman Method of Art Criticism
Description is describing what you see, delaying your judgment. Analysis is to describe behaviors of what you see. Interpretation is finding the meaning of what you see and figuring out how is makes you feel. Evaluation is the final step, you evaluate what you see. Ask yourself does the work have value through formal qualities.

Assignment 1

Hey! I am Trudy Baker from Lake City, South Carolina. I am a junior and a early childhood education major!
I have attempted to make art a few times. I have made a light house sculpture out of plaster and then painted it after it was dry. It actually turned out really well. I have also attempted to paint on canvas, it did not go to well. I ended up just painting trees. I remember being really aggravated that I could not paint the picture the way I wanted it.  I like pretty much all art, but I hope to gain a better appreciation for all types.
I have not been to a Museum since last summer with the children I babysit for. However, my mom and I walked into an Art Gallery a few weeks ago and we had a great time examining pieces, talking about why we like them, and discussing what room we would put them in at the house. I have always liked Plays and Ballets. I actually went to a couple last semester. I have never gone to or seen an Opera or Art Film however. I believe by taking this class it will broaden my appreciation.
The way I learn the best is in an active learning environment. I learn better when I can actively engage in what the Professor is saying.
I am taking this class because it is required for my major and also like I previously stated that I feel like it will help me gain a better appreciation for all types of art. Art has moved me before. Once I stopped at Ernest Lee’s stand and he was painting. The way he seemed to enjoy what he did so much moved me. Happiness inspires me; it inspires me to find things in life that make me happy. I believe art is different for each person. I believe art is an expression of someone’s feelings. I think that art can be found in a lot of things such as comics, music, video games, and television.
I am not exactly sure who decides if art is good. I feel like art is good if it moves or inspires you, I don’t think it is decided by one person.
When my friends and I debate music or movies I believe we critique them by comparing them to our past favorites. I think that the best movie of last year was Love and Other Drugs. It was my favorite because it was a very realistic movie. When I think of an Art Film I think of an independently made film, a film that is dramatic.
All of the CD’s in my car are Dave Matthew Band. They are my absolute favorite.
