Comedy of Errors

The theater in Drayton Hall is Proscenium style.  The set  was really detailed a church was in the center with buildings on both side. There was a building on the far right with a man on his balcony typing. There were two balcony’s on the set. The costumes were very fun, and colorful, they really added to the show.
I would have to guess the time era of this play is current day. The author of this play is Shakespeare. The play was written between1589 and 1595.
The plot of the story begins with mistaken identity. The mix up turns into chaos. By the end they are trying to sort it out. I enjoy the play although it was hard to hear. It was hilarious.

Phantom of the Opera

Describe-  The Phantom of the Opera  takes place in a French Opera House. The Phantom is a disfigured man that happens to be a musical genius, he  terrorizes the cast. The movie would be considered a musical, drama, romance, and thriller.
Analyze-  When analyzing this film you must understand the entire plot or you will not understand the depth of the story. The music used helps you understand on an emotional level  how deep this story actually is.
Interpret- By listening and watching you are able to interpret the depth of the story.  Everything that the phantom does throughout the movie can be interpreted into an act of love for Christine.
Evaluate- I really enjoyed this film, and I usually do not like musicals. By taking ARTE 360                , I learned to appreciate this particular musical. The film made the opera come to life.

Big Apple / Shag

When dancing the shag the dancer counts “1” “and” “2” “3” “and” “4” “5” “6”.
The building was originally named The House of Peace. In 1936 the building became the Big Apple Night Club, soon after the Big Apple Dance became a huge craze. The Big Apple was moved to its current location in the 1980’s. In 1993 it became a part of the Historic Columbia Foundation. The features of this building include a balcony, skylight. Also, bottom floor is open, perfect for a dance floor.
The shag originated in clubs in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The shag consists of 6 counts. The shag is performed by two people, the male usually leads. The shag is still very popular in South Carolina.

Columbia Museum of Art - Event

The photograph I chose was the Supremes arriving at an airport. This picture is owned by the Emi Studio. The photograph was taken by John Dove in January of 1965.  The photograph is a chromogenic print, it appears black and off white.
The photo is of the Supremes getting off of an airplane. They are close together, smiling and holding their own luggage. The setting of this photo is at an airport, at the bottom of the plane stairs.  The clothes are classic, sweaters and skirts. The picture reveals that they seem like a very happy, classy singing group.
The Supremes were an American women singing group. The sang many genres of music extending from disco to soul. Women came and left the singing group. The most well known member of the group would be Diana Ross. The groups most popular songs  include Baby Love, You Can’t Hurry Love, and Stop in the Name of Love.

DANCE

The Baroque period of dance was very popular during the Baroque period.. Louis XIV during this time was a big influence on classical dance.  The dances performed during this time were usually performed at court ballets, social events, and theatres. The Baroque period  extended from about 1600 to 1750.

People dance for many reasons. A lot of people dance to express themselves, everyone has their own way of expressing themselves. People dance to get exercise. Dancing is a great exercise that works many muscles. I believe most people dance because they love and enjoy it.
The Cha Cha is a form of non western dance. The cha cha can simply be described as a fast rhythmic dance.
